I’m Jenny Hearns, an independent artist and freelance graphic designer and illustrator based in Grand Rapids, Michigan!

I fell in love with the culture and nature surrounding West Michigan while studying at Kendall College of Art and Design. It was there that I was able to grow as an artist and discover more about myself.

As a designer, I have spent over 15 years working in production and for advertising agencies in a variety of industries (automotive, grocery, radio, higher education, non-profits, media). Not only do I have a passion for design, but many other mediums as well. From illustration and animation, to photography and video editing, to printmaking and murals, there’s no limit for me when it comes to creativity.

I’ve always had a passion for helping others, especially animals. In the early 2010s, I fostered over 30 cats and kittens and started volunteering my creative skills for a local animal rescue. This experience deepened my appreciation for how much of an impact design can have on the world around us. I’ve been thankful to have opportunities to continue working with non-profits throughout the years.

Since 2020, I’ve become known for my “spooky” characters, including my sad ghosts. I have painted a few murals around town and occasionally paint on the legal graffiti wall. I started vending at artist markets throughout Michigan and have participated in ArtPrize. I love creating things that are unique with elements of whimsy, surrealism, and absurdity.

If I’m not out somewhere in nature taking photos and getting inspired, I’m probably at home hanging out with my failed foster cat Chance making something. I live to create.
